LED Light Therapy for Male Fertility

LED red light therapy for male fertility is a non-invasive relaxing treatment to increase sperm count, improve sperm motility and decrease the production of abnormal sperm cells.

Testicular stimulation by red light has been researched for almost a century, with studies linking it to healthy testicular growth and superior reproductive outcomes in almost all cases.

Similar to almost every cell in our body, Sertoli Cells have mitochondria, the target of LED therapy. These cells are the sperm-producing cells of the testes – the place where sperm is manufactured. The proper functioning of these cells is essential for all aspects of male fertility. Studies point to LED therapy improving the quantity of Sertoli Cells in the male testicles, thus improving sperm in three ways: improving sperm motility (sperm speed) and increasing sperm count (quantity of sperm). and decreasing the production of abnormal sperm cells.

Male Fertility Results

Studies on testosterone and sperm motility show that after just a single session of red light therapy, sperm motility (swim speed) improves significantly. The motility or speed of the sperm cells is of critical importance for fertility, as without sufficient speed, the sperm will never make the journey to reach the female’s egg cell and fertilize it.

Overall sperm counts have been shown to improve by 2-5 times in males with previously low counts. In one study from Denmark, the sperm counts increased from 2 million per ml to over 40 million per ml with only one treatment over the testicles.

FAQ

  • Male testicles hang outside of the torso for a specific reason – they operate most efficiently at 95°F, which is two degrees below normal body temperature of 98.6°.

Many types of lamps and bulbs used by some for light therapy give off a significant amount of heat and therefore are NOT suitable for use on the testicles. Heating the testicles while attempting to apply light would give negative results.

The only efficient (ie cold) sources of red light are LEDs. This is another reason we utilize Celluma’s LED devices at Blue Ova.

  • Unlike other LED light therapy devices on the market, Celluma has the unique ability to contour close to the skin’s surface for increased light absorption and optimal therapeutic efficacy.

Celluma is also FDA-cleared, which is not true for many light therapy devices. FDA-cleared medical devices assure that appropriate regulation and authoritative oversight have been conducted.

  • Celluma is safe, clinically proven, FDA cleared and medically CE marked for skin and pain conditions.

LED light therapy is also non-toxic, non-invasive, and an affordable alternative to prescription drugs and harsh topical treatments.

Unlike other types of light therapy treatments, LEDs do not contain ultraviolet (UV) rays, so there is no risk of cancer-causing damage to skin tissue.

In comparison to lasers, LEDs generate negligible amounts of heat and are not considered a significant risk to the general population.

  • In general, side effects from light therapy are rare. If they do occur, they typically involve temporary redness of the treated area.

Side effects are minor and do not last long. Red light therapy treatment is non-invasive, painless, requires no recovery time, and can be used on all skin types and tones.

  • There are a few contraindications:

—If pregnant or breastfeeding, talk with your healthcare provider.-

    —Suffer from seizures or epilepsy.

—Taking cortisone injections or any steroid injections.

    —Taking any photosensitive drugs.

    —Use over known metastasis.

—Within 5 days after the use of cosmetic fillers over that area.
